Mary Lu Lowe, 77, passed away on September 29, 2015 in Walnut Creek, California, of mantle cell lymphoma. She died peacefully, surrounded by family. She was born on February 17, 1938 in Long Island, New York to the late Harold and Evelyn Hollingsworth. Mary Lu grew up on Twin Peaks in San Francisco. After graduating from Lowell High School in San Francisco, she earned her BA in elementary education from San Francisco State University. After college she traveled to Germany, where she taught in the armed forces schools. Upon returning to the bay area, Mary Lu joined the San Francisco Viking Ski Club where she met her husband, Thomas Lowe. They were married on April 9, 1966, in Oakland.

Mary Lu was an active member of her church and she enjoyed daily morning walks with her "Walkie Talkie" group. She loved gardening, cooking, baking, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Mary Lu is survived by her husband of nearly 50 years, Tom Lowe, of Lafayette; her sons Mark and Brad Lowe; her three sisters Sylvia Gurley, Jeannie Runnion, and Lynda Ritter; and her grandchildren Ben (18), Allison (9), Zach (7), and Cooper (7).

A memorial Service will be held at Lafayette-Orinda Presbyterian Church, 49 Knox Drive, in Lafayette, on October 10th at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
